About Us

Secretariat for the group is provided by The Victoria Climbié Foundation UK and UEL Centre for Social Work Research.

This group aims to focus on the child protection / safeguarding needs of children and young people in migration and within minority ethnic communities. We aim to ensure that the rights, care and protection of the BME and migrant child are upheld, and that effective quality services are delivered to these children and young people.

The responsibilities of the group are to monitor and to work to improve the quality of care for these children and young people, through supporting research, campaigning and promoting professional and practitioner communication and networking, and through publication and dissemination online and in print media.

We are working across three strands; (1) children and young people in migration, including unaccompanied minors; (2) culture and faith (impact of beliefs); (3) responses to radicalisation (impact of the Prevent programme).

The group was established in autumn 2016 and was launched at the Houses of Parliament on 18th January 2017 with the support of Sir Keir Starmer MP.
